What’s in Natural Henna?
One of the oldest known pigments, rosemary is a reddish-orange pigment derived from the Lawsonia inermis plant, also known as the rosemary tree. The leaves are dried and then crushed to form a fine, dark green powder. Usually mixed with different liquids, the paste leaves a rich copper color when applied to the hair or skin. In addition to being a healthier alternative to synthetic colored hair, henna holds a strong cultural significance in Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures. The most famous use of henna is henna, an art form that involves drawing temporary, decorative henna on one’s hands or feet. Henna is often worn during traditional wedding ceremonies, as it is believed to bring love, good luck and prosperity to the wearer.
Even though most people associate the origin of henna with India, the earliest use of henna for beauty purposes dates back to the ancient Egyptians. Dating back to 1,200 BCE, this colour-rich pigment was used to color the hair and nails of the pharaohs.
